Brand Identity, Art Direction and Strategy for the second edition of the Sharjah Architecture Triennial's international exhibition (SAT02), titled The Beauty of Impermanence: An Architecture of Adaptability, curated by Tosin Oshinowo.
This multifaceted project encompassed an array of components, including an Advertisement Campaign spanning across the city of Sharjah, Environmental Graphics across four Venues, a variety of Social Media assets, Guidebook, Tote Bags, Lanyards and badges, and a dedicated Website, among others.
Drawing inspiration from the theme's exploration of lessons from the global South, the identity embodies the concept of creativity through constraints. By employing minimal visual elements, notably a dot, crafting a diverse system of patterns, resulting in a recognizable visual language. This language speaks to rhythm, nature, joy, simplicity, balance, and humanity, encapsulating the essence of impermanence and adaptability. Additionally, the identity draws inspiration from the body painting and scarification practices of African tribes, serving as a poignant reminder to reconnect with our roots and embrace the overlooked and, often, forgotten traditions of the Global South. This approach fosters a deeper understanding of sustainability, accessibility, and equity, paving the way for a more inclusive and harmonious future.
